Jurassic Park
I step outside of the hotel,
the cool, misty air from the water blowing my hair back.
I step out of the car
and look up at the towering douglas fir trees.
I step down onto a slippery rock
And look into the clear babbling brook.
I step back and admire the moss covered trees,
bent over the trail like their backs hurt.
I walk along the winding hall of mosses trail.
I feel like I am in Jurassic Park.
I roll down the window as we drive next to Lake Crescent,
the mountain air fills my lungs
and all the toxins leave my body.
I sit in the passenger seat as my mom pays for the morning
vanilla latte and egg and sausage sandwich.
Forks felt like the book.
Seattle felt like a dream.
A place I felt at home and never lost.
When the rain pattered down.
I felt like I was in heaven.
What was so great about this place?
Is it the mountains?
The beach?
The sea glass?
The boats and whales?
The cold rain?
Or is it the music?
The memories of icons?
The market?
The hilly streets and winding roads?
Or maybe…
it is the twilight dream
Possibly…
All the Kurt Cobain memorials.
No it is not one but all.
Everything I listed.
I love it all.
I miss it.
I want to go back and never leave.
Stay hidden in the trees,
tucked away,
comfortable,
cozy.
Washington State.
A place I think about everyday.
