Accountability
The whisper of an exposed shoulder.
The seduction of a silhouette.
Knee high boots.
Small tight shorts.
A bra strap left uncovered.
Seductive symbols that draw you in
Should not draw you in
To a young girl’s body.
It is not my responsibility
For society’s rules.
You are responsible
For making me think that the exposure of my skin deserves punishment.
covering up
in 100 degree weather.
Never walking alone in the dark
While my brother goes for runs.
Pacing home quickly
While I’m wearing my school uniform.
I should not expect
A car to slow down.
I should not be told
That my clothes are distracting.
It is not my responsibility
For society’s leering.
You are responsible
For making my body unsafe to exist in.
