The Tree Outside
This tree is an artist,
it paints itself green.
He wants to use more colors
and so added brown to his branches.
She tries out new colors,
she gives a red-orange ombre to the leaves at the top
which has a stunning contrast with the green.
The branches stretch outward,
revealing the parts that the leaves have hidden.
It wants people to be able to breathe what it has created,
so it starts to produce oxygen.
The tree watches in immense joy as people admire his hard work.
She’s proud of herself
and the beauty that she has created.
They loved experimenting with colors
and therefore vowed to always add new looks
and redefine their beauty.

I chose to experiment with personification. I used my set piece about a tree I saw outside of my classroom. I truly enjoyed making the tree as an artist. I feel like “painting” gives the tree more feeling. My tree is gender fluid, throughout this piece I will be changing its pronouns. This symbolizes that the tree is always changing and doesn’t define itself to an impression.
