Adolescence

It is normal and clearly acknowledged,

Like a tiny boat sailing lonely in the vast ocean,

That teenagers feel lost as they enter this age,

Nowhere around to be hidden.

After the fading memory of childhood,

Before the mysterious veil of middle age,

Everyone mandates you to perform good,

Adolescence locks you up in a cage.

Escape seems to be the best option,

Rebelling against expectations demanded,

Gradually indulging in self-deception,

Your heart finds no place to be landed.

Your mind becomes mesmerized,

Shirking new responsibilities,

Filling up time by being amused,

Trying to fake dignity.

Soon failures inevitably arise,

Fear and resentment lead to an outburst,

You rebuff everything with cynical eyes,

Believing goodwill to mean its reverse.

Your heart is now under a shroud,

As new mistakes accumulated upon,

Realizing errors leaves you standing in the crowd,

Helplessly looking for a shoulder worth relying on.

It is the shoulder from whom you initially rebel,

Supporting your sinking heart,

The words of these mentors serve to propel

Igniting hope for a brand-new start.

The road is in your heart to direct decisions,

not to be shaded;

The future expects your explorations,

not to be wasted.
