I Love You Like I Hate You

I love you when we slow dance in the kitchen

Using the pale moonlight flooding through the window

To guide us

When you laugh so hard at my terrible jokes

That tears fall from your eyes

I love the sugary pink things you say

But now I can’t help but notice

The crude green acid dripping from your lips

After every time you speak

You’re cold and bitter but somehow

Warm and welcoming

You only speak in lies but the lies are so very lovely

That maybe...maybe it’s okay

What have you done to me?

You glamoured me from the world

Made me blind to the truth

Turned the bad to good

And never let me see it

The love you fed me turned to poison

And the poison turned to an antidote

And the antidote turned to…

Nothing...nothing at all

I love you

And I can’t bring myself to leave

Not when the memories of us

Laughing and slow dancing lingers in my mind

And so I will adore you loudly

And hate you quietly

I love you

I hate you

I love you like I hate you

I wrote this for my creative writing class and will use this one for our peotry slam. This is a POV peom taking the persepective of someone stuck in a toxic relationship. None of this has happened to me personaly, everything is stuff I've made up and seen somewhere else.
