Imagine a world in which race has no meaning

The color of one’s skin is no cause

For speculation or trepidation that one strives to break laws

And no matter whether you are black or white

light as snow or dark as night

Respect and trust is always worth gleaning

Potential is considered something from within

“where will you go?” rather than “where have you been?”

Love is the only measure,

of worth and kindness, a treasure

For which here there is no key,

but in that world, is given liberally

Imagine a world, far and wide

Where no one has to run or hide,

For laws and such are set in place,

But remain unbroken, and held with grace

Weapons and gunfire, none exist

the touch of words, instead of fist

Peace and Love, Love and Trust

Accept of nothing but what is just

and wise, they know nothing good comes from

lies, in their eyes, just ignorance in disguise

The effect of a bullet is understood,

They think “what can?” Instead of “what could?”

They know that one single shot,

Kills a brother, a husband, a father

While here, there is no bother

What is wrong, to fight what fought?

Imagine a future where a girl can dream

To grow up and be Supreme, like RBG, and to fight

For what she believes is right, and ignite

her own fire, pave the way for others who desire

To be equal, to be same,

for we are all different players,

but we play the same game

Let us break free of this toxic society,

The standards set upon us for what they call “beauty”

Plastic surgery, to get the perfect body

but all bodies are perfect, that’s what they can’t see

This is our future, that is the past

The future, what can be, the past does not last

Accept that this is the new generation

We are the creation, born from motivation, and

we’re done with discrimination, it’s time for renovation

Conservation got us nowhere, it’s liberation that can repair

centuries of alienation, segregation, from the plantation

owners to the lady on the street who called you a slur

It’s people like her

who are the real contamination

need some inspiration?

Breonna Taylor, shot  “accidentally”,

Asian people being treated like they’re the disease,

Horrific examples of police brutality,

Inequity to people because of their sexuality,

White supremacy, the Ku Klux Klan,

encouraged by the very man

who led our country,

I can’t breathe

George Floyd’s last plea,

before he was killed by a policeman’s knee

We can’t ignore reality.

Let’s feed on our frustration. It’s time for termination.

Imagine a future, re-imagine the present

at least now we know what we need to prevent, we’ll

prevail, over discrimination of any kind, don’t be blind

Combined, we can rewrite humankind,

for while everything now might be misaligned,

The future remains

undefined.

The author's comments:

This poem reflects on many current worldwide issues, including discrimination and police brutality. I think that spreading views on these kinds of things creatively can help draw more attention.
