Where Am I From?
I am from a life filled with color,
From a place that is made from rainbows
I am from a land so far away from here
Across the blue seas and the green lands, above the clouds.
Maybe in a castle waiting for my prince to save me
Where the big red dragon soars above in the sky
Where the children run and play in the beautiful garden
Of flowers
I am from a place where it is always sunny
Or am I really from a place that is wonderful
Maybe I am from a place that isn’t filled with color
From a place quiet and dark, deep under the ground
Where all kinds of big creatures roam around
Where there is no sun, sky, color, or a flower
Maybe I live in a place where monsters play around
Where bats are considered a pet and bugs are considered food
A place filled with the color black and grey
But I know where I am from
You will just never know

For a school assignment, I was to create my own poem using the first line of a poem that was already created. I was to use the same structure as the poem as well. I wrote my poem by using the first line from “Where I’m From” by Melanie Poonai.
