There is a Bitter Triumph in Crashing When You Should be Soaring
“There is a bitter triumph in crashing when you should be soaring”
~ from a line by Fiona, “Untitled”
We stood on the rocks of a cliff. There
the world ended. The swirls of stars is
blinding, as it pulses with the glow of every soul. A
whole universe waits below as bitter
wind threatens to shove us off. Triumph
only comes in jumping, it howls. But what if in
jumping we end up crashing.
Falling through the stars to a place when
nothing exists, but darkness? You
stretch your arms like wings and shout. You should
not be scared, you tell me. Let the stars be
your sky! Then you leap into the waiting night, dust trailing like wings, soaring.

I chose found the poem "We Can Rewrite Icarus" by Fiona which was posted on Tumblr. I took the line "there is a bitter triumph in crashing when you should be soaring " and used it to create my own Golden Shovel poem. In the scene i created, there are two people which is basically the reader and another person that they know closely. They are both standing on the edge of the cliff, looking down at the universe. They have to jump which leads to one of two things happening. One where you fly and essentially become an angel of sorts, while the other path was where instead of flying, you could crash through to darkness. Both places were the sort of place you go after dying. I really hope you like my piece!
Here is the poem by Fiona, I think you will also really like their poem as much as I did:
