American Progress
American Progress
For America to be America, we must also be individuals.
Not belong to a group that preaches all of our ideals.
Where if we are not with, we are against,
And if we speak out, we are oppressed.
For us to unite, we need to accept,
Others point of view rather than reject,
Every idea that is not our own.
People must care what other folks feel,
And not be scared to speak out of fear.
Politics should not determine our friends,
Should not be a factor when making amends.
When we stand with great unity,
and feel a sense of community,
America will be a happier place
Filled with harmony, regardless of race.
We must feel proud of our morals,
And learn from our quarrels.
We must compromise but never forget.
We are Americans.
The American dream should not fade to a theme,
Much rather it should gleam,
And as our most protected ideal,
it must consequently stay real.
I love America and everyone in it.
Although I must admit everyone may slip,
They should not be terrorized and we must not lose our grip,
Of the fact that we are all Americans.
Even within our own community
There may not be equal opportunity.
We must end this oppression
And not go back into recession.
These groups within groups must end.
We must bend, and defend our fellow American.
We are one people within our differences
Regardless of our preferences.
Race, color, religion, sexuality
Must not be a factor to determine our generosity.
The figurative and literal cages we made,
Must be burst open and thoroughly swayed,
And let everyone be free.
Blue-collar or white-collar
All that matters is the dollar.
The dollar is what seems
To produce a gleam
In the eyes of most Americans.
This gleam of greed
Is not what America needs.
We need happiness and consideration to take over,
Not billionaires turning trillionaires and the poor getting poorer.
Religion is complicated, the idea of a God.
It is Americans’ right to believe what they want,
No matter should others think it is flawed.
Some people don’t believe in heaven or hell,
And yet still all is well.
America is everyone’s not just one person,
We must not hurt each other and scream out with curses.
Rather we must be kind and love our neighbor,
And put each other back in each other’s favor.
