Drivers License
The week I got my license, my parents looked for a car;
I wasn't ready for it to be everything I needed.
High mileage and a couple of leaks,
built-up old dirt in the creaks of the seats.
It took me a bit to feel like he was home.
But that 05 Ford Focus never let me feel alone.
Through all of the adventures and aches, all the good memories and mistakes,
We built a companionship I could never replace.
But I kind of want to drive a little faster, we could grow together,
that's no debate.
But his wheels won't budge
and he seems to hesitate his forward nudge.
It's silly to expect this machine to change his mind
Just because I think he's blind and could do more
doesn't mean he has the means. It's probably just my silly dreams
but still, I want to see the West coast, take a journey miles away--
yet I don't think he'll ever be ready to make a move, and neither will my car.
