No Repairs
Day in, day out
The car walks towards the ever distant horizon,
Wheels turning over and over and over.
The engine coughs a little before calming down,
And a worried look passes over my face.
Day in, day out
I wake up, refuel with some breakfast, and get ready for school.
I park myself at my desk and idle until class is over.
My alarm clock fails to jump-start the day as well as it used to.
The car waits patiently outside, glaring at me for my lateness.
Years pass,
The engine won’t wake up, and the headlights only flicker like blinking eyelids.
The car sits and contemplates its stillness, the culmination of endless motion.
It has long since fallen to its knees in bitter defeat.
Years pass,
Oxidation has claimed my joints, now crumbling to nothing.
Cracks have begun to form in my skin and my eyes scream for oil.
Routine has reduced me to rust.
I’m out of gas.
