Rise, and Fall
January 22, 2021
The rising sun will blind me as it sets
all lighted droplets burning towards the sea;
Glowing with golden stains, precarious, they dress
the windswept sail, and on the edge they lean
until we fall and hug the wild ocean.
We guide our raft into the shrieking wind
and righting it, now tides of night awaken.
Let Polaris touch the beadlets on our skin
to paint our unbroken bodies “golden” called.
Our windswept heartbeat will again begin;
For we breathe in rhythm
with wave and squall,
Rise, and fall rise, and fall.

I purposely used meter in this poem; The first stanza is strict iambic pentameter, the second stanza is loose iambic pentameter, and the third breaks away from the first two stanzas even further.
