Fit in
You have to fit in, they say.
Don’t color your hair for public display
Or let needles create art on your body.
Don’t pierce your skin, that’s not right-
You’re too thick wait no, now too thin.
Dress conservatively, don’t draw attention.
Be simple, and don’t bother to mention those heels that are too tall,
The shirts that are too small-
Why can’t you just fit in?
Eat three meals a day, but only if you don’t gain weight.
Cuz’ you can’t be beautiful that way.
Don’t sin, for you will never win and your life will crumble in God’s hands.
God dammit why can’t you just live a normal life? Stay in on weekends, working on school every night.
You want to be successful don’t you?
Well then fit it with the nerds, and don’t rebel,
Learn to think smart and raise yourself well.
Don’t make friends with the outcasts-
They’ll trap you in their warped minds.
This is the society, and I’ll remind you everyday,
No matter what you want to do or what you want to say
I think it’s time you fit in,
Dreams are stupid anyway.
