Arriving at my house on a summer's day

Perky little ears the whole family would say

Tiny paws that pittered and pattered

If u ate our dinner, it did not matter

I loved your bark, it rang through the house

Our mornings would never be as quiet as a mouse

We filled you with treats, you were never taunted

I appreciate the wake up call, even though it was unwanted

Wagging your cute tail throughout the halls

Bought a new can of paint to fix the scratched walls

We’ll love you forever and this is your home

Even though you buried the garden gnome.

The author's comments:

During my freshman year of highschool, we were instructed to create a poetry portfolio consisting of different types of poems with a variety of themes. I have a dog named Buster that I absolutely adore. So, when I found out that I had to write an ode, I knew it would be an ode to my dog. After finishing my poem, Ode to my Dog ended up being my favorite poem out of all the poems in the portfolio.
