leaving MAG
how could i
 have spent
 my life waiting
 for this,
 for you to tell me
 with your tiny
 broken
 words
 that you won't
 be there
 anymore

 as you took back
 your love
 and all your
 unspoken promises
 i felt no relief
 as from a burden
 lifted,
 only the tenderness
 that came with
 the bruise
 that will remain
 eternally
 on my heart

 (it is in
 the shape
 of your
 smile
 when you said
 “i love you”)

 the harsh cold
 of the wind
 froze the
 tears
 on my cheeks
 and when i tried
 to wash them
 off
 they burned
 like fire,
 leaving
 invisible scars,
 reminders of
 you

 i knew life
 wasn't fair
 but i guess i
 missed
 the part of the
 story
 where it became so
 cruel

 (just like i missed
 the chapter
 warning me
 not to fall for
 you)

 or maybe i did
 read it
 maybe i knew
 all along
 and just hoped
 you would be
 different
 and defy
 expectations

 but you,
 impeccably kind,
 defied my hopes,
 instead
 leaving me stranded
 on an uncharted island,
 watching as the map
 slipped
 from your silent
 fingers

 (and even then
 i whispered sweet words
 to the wind,
 still trying
 to bring you
 back to me)
