Those Pretty Blue Eyes
I saw him standing there
On that field,
His long, shaggy, blonde hair
One look into Those Pretty Blue Eyes
And I fell.
Friday night
The first date
He took me for dinner
He walked me to the back door
He left me with a “goodnight” and a kiss
I gazed into Those Pretty Blue Eyes
And I fell.
1 Month passed
I was infatuated
Things were so great
We were together all the time
With each look into Those Pretty Blue Eyes
I fell.
Things started to get hard
So many nights I spent
Wondering, praying
Should I leave?
But I looked into Those Pretty Blue Eyes
And time after time,
I fell.
I was hurting
Every insult
Every argument
Every tear shed
I should’ve left
But one look into Those Pretty Blue Eyes
And I fell.
He broke me
He tore me apart
Piece by piece
All the lies
All the deceit
All the wasted time
That boy
Those Pretty Blue Eyes
They broke me
But still
I fell.
Months passed
I no longer wept over him
I no longer spent many sleepless nights
Crying over him
I was okay for once
All the pain was no longer there
I passed him on the street
I took one look into Those Pretty Blue Eyes
And no longer
Did I fall.

This is a piece of poetry I wrote while going through a breakup. I hope this will help people going through a breakup to see that it'll be okay. It'll take time but things get better eventually. This piece was inspired by Chelsea Maldonado's "What They Don't Tell You At Eighteen."
