Wintertide
November 19, 2019
Bleak landscapes stretch far
Sky’s made up of grey and white
Daylight escapes fast
Snow comes down in sheets of white
Sparkles against the fading light

The wintertime is chalked full of fun and joy with things like sledding, skiing, and hot chocolate breaks, but that’s not all. I wish to submit to you one of my poems titled Wintertide. The form of this poem is a Tanka and its topic is the winter. Instead of focusing on the widely loved parts of winter such as the fluffy white snow, warm fires, and hot chocolate I focused on the more realistic drab and less favorable part of winter. I took this theme because I tend to think about the winter in idyllic terms instead of the realistic drawbacks it poses.
I am a senior at Seattle Academy, a high school, and this trimester I have taken Creative Writing. In this class, I have expanded my poetic repertoire as well as improve the creative aspect of my writing. The writing in this class has allowed me to express my highs and lows from school, sports, and family life in a creative form that means a lot to me personally.
