To the Moon and Back
Like the Moon, I come out in the gloomy hours. Listening to music or cleaning my room. Those are the best hours. No one is awake and it feels like I have the freedom to think what I want to think, to feel what I want to feel. There is no judgement awake, there is no hatred awake. It feels freeing, welcoming, clearing. I don’t find the darkness shocking. I find it comforting.
Like the Moon, I am surrounded by dazzling stars. My friends illuminate my world. They give me guidance and always make me feel important, just as the stars give the Moon room to shine. Inviting me to hang out with them and telling me how much I mean to them. They have different constellations--personalities--they help me to light up the cloudiness when it seems too challenging to do by myself.
Like the Moon, I have an opposite like the Sun. My best friend, who truly has lit up my uninteresting world, is my Sun. We refer to each other as the Sun and the Moon all the time because she shines brightly for everyone to see while I am more reserved. Not always saying what I'm feeling or engaging in conversation. The Sun and the Moon have a bond and they work together--one providing light in the day and one creating light in the night. They bond they have is unbreakable.
Like the Moon, I am far away from everything. It takes a long time to reach me and explore my mind. It’s like how you see the Moon in the isolated sky, you only see the surface of it. But if you were to actually take a trip to the Moon, you would find details, secrets, hidden meanings.
Like the Moon, I am bright. I stand alone in the ghostly darkness, still somehow managing to spread a spark and to be there for guidance. I am able to be counted on. When strolling along at night we praise the Moon for being able to see the journey ahead of us.
Like me, the Moon let’s us know that even in the deepest darkness, everything is okay with a little bit of light.

This is one of my favorite pieces because the Moon is so fascinating to me. In this poem, you will see how I feel about the Moon and how I feel that I can relate to it. I had a really fun time writing this poem so I hope that everyone enjoys it!
