I am the poet
Who sees through the haze,
And watches the clock
That numbers our days

She is the girl
That waits for me,
And I wait for her
For eternity.

And the skies are darkening
In sync with the time,
And the clock tells us
That we’re going to die.
So why live this lie,
Day after day?
‘Cause when the clock strikes midnight,
We’re dead anyway.

And the elders say
That the day will come,
When the clock says twelve
And our days are done.

But I don’t think
That this will ever die,
I don’t think it can
Because it’s not a lie.

In the end
We come back to the beginning,
Bu in the end
No one is winning.
So why live this lie,
Day after day?
‘Cause when the clock strikes midnight,
We’re dead anyway.

Don’t let it strike
Don’t let it end,
Because the world we fear
Is right around the bend.

So heed my warning
And you will survive,
To see the future
And the change of the tide.

I have not changed
And neither has she,
But we walk together
Towards our destiny.
So why live this lie,
Day after day?
‘Cause when the clock strikes midnight,
We’re dead anyway.

The author's comments:
My inspiration for this poem, which I am making a song, came from myself and my U.S. History teacher, Mr. Paul Diamond. My own inspiration came from my own personal experiences with love, life, and death. Mr. Diamond gave me the idea of using the Doomsday Clock as a symbol. There are many symbols in this song.

I personally think that there isn't one word to describe this song, or the effect that it should have on the reader/listener. You can interpret this many different ways, and I can't wait to see what some people think it is about.
