Mother nature is slowly dying while humans ignore

All that we do is take and take

Eventually mother nature will even the score

What happens when the only thing left is trash on the ocean floor

Plastic grasping on to anything that is left alive

Mother nature is slowly dying while humans ignore

The burning forest fires forever no more

The helpless animals try to escape the flames

Eventually mother nature will even the score

She tries to warn us but we just close the door

How come we can’t give back to one who has given so much

Mother nature is slowly dying while humans ignore

How can we do this to a world we so much adore

We break and bruise her for our needy selves

Eventually mother nature will even the score

We took so much from her down to her core

All that is left is the skeleton of our greed

Mother nature is slowly dying while humans ignore

Eventually mother nature will even the score

The author's comments:

The topic of my poem is how we are polluting our earth to the point of no return which is what “mother nature will even the score” means. Climate change is real and our world is rapidly dying to the point of living with limited resources and no going back. I wrote it in style of a villanelle and used rythem throughout my peom to pull the piece together. The message i want my readers to get out of this poem is that we are at a point in our existance where we dont have much time left to start saving the earth from the damage we have caused before its too late. Pretty soon we will pass the point of going back. We wont have clean air, water, or enough food. Our forests will be gone and animals will be extinct. It will be the hardest thing we will ever face by far if we dont make a change.
