This Needs to be Solved

It’s not fair that fortunate people don’t care

Not everyone can afford to consistently eat

We need to find ways to share.

Some  are able to look into our pantry when hungry, others have to hold prayer

While people are starving, in search of their next meal

It’s not fair that fortunate people don’t care.

This is not just a problem in one city, state, or country, it’s everywhere

Even when sitting at lunch, starving students watch as their peers scarf down food

We need to find ways to share.

Would you be able to stay focused with your stomach so bare?

Food is essential to living, without it, kids cannot be giving their full attention

It’s not fair that fortunate people don’t care.

It would be substantial if more people would donate to help repair

Clearly something is broken world wide

We need to find ways to share.

At the very least we all need to be aware

This is serious and people need to realize that this needs to be addressed

It’s not fair that fortunate people don’t care.

Step into the shoes of someone who can’t afford food and compare

Would you want your life to be there?

It’s not fair that fortunate people don’t care.

We need to find ways to share.

The author's comments:

I am normally not really a poetry person however,  during this I discovered that I enjoyed using the villanelle structure for this poem because it helped the poem have better flow. Not only that, but I also liked the structure because of the rhyming and how it brings the stanzas together. I chose to write this poem because I not only wanted to inform people on world hunger, but also about how it affects so many people. When writing this poem, I also wanted to try to encourage people who are fortunate enough to never be hungry that they should help.
