Our Voices
Our voices are silent.
We have no place here.
And when we try to speak, things turn violent.
There’s no time to remain compliant,
The years pass, and there is no change for us.
But it’s time to end being silent.
Social Media, Protests, Petitions, show empowerment.
We must try anything to reconstruct this world,
Without the need to be violent.
We can no longer be quiet.
Our place in this world should matter,
We cannot stay silent.
To end this together, there needs to be alignment.
Together, as one, we can generate a movement,
We can without anyone being violent.
For this to work, we must be confident,
We need to be defiant.
Women should not be silent.
And the world should not be violent.

The purpose of my poem was Women empowerment and the issues that have circulated the country about women in places of power. I wanted my poem to showcase this movement that has been going on, where women in every part of the world are standing up to the injustice they’ve received and the violence endured just to be heard. When I write violence, it’s not physical but mental. Mentally, women have been pushed to the ground with words and laws that don’t allow them to rise. This past year, women have taken a stand to this and that has really caused a change, a small one, but it will grow one day.
