Animal Persons
Dark clouds rolling in from the west.
Thunder and lightning fill the sky.
I can feel the rumble of the maple tree.
The wind starts to howl, people start running to shelter.
My nest wiggles around and all of a sudden,
my eggs fall to the sidewalk.
I fly down to try and save them,
it’s too late.
I hear my eggs crunch as people walk on top of them,
trying to get out of the rain.
The rain comes down harder, making it impossible to see.
I know that they are gone… forever.
I can see people struggling to escape the storm,
papers are flying everywhere.
Sirens start going off,
time to relocate.
