What is School For
Three projects, four poems, problems one through ninety-three
All of which add on to pre-existing anxiety
You’re so busy you don’t have a second to spare
So you completely forget about your own self care
You study so long you can barely see
Yet, you only make a 20 on your ACT
The people who score better get a head start
Because the system makes them seem extra smart
School, let me introduce you to the art of failing
It’s something that leaves us students flailing
We worry too much about fishing for a good grade
When we need to worry about how we're going to get paid
Your parents ask you what you learned at school with hope
And sigh when you learned Jimmy has 32 bottles of soap
But hey, it’s not at all your fault
It’s the school system that has your learning at a halt
Credit, taxes, investment, student loans
These are things we need to not learn alone
I say these words, but I have to come clean
I have completely, utterly, no idea what they mean
