What if Sour Patch Kids used to be sweet

Like a torn hero crumbled by defeat

Or a soft melody drowned out by a fist

A beautiful soul with scars on its wrist

Once a masterpiece shattered like glass

A smile that shields the pain of the past

A loving mind poisoned by words

Desperate for relief for what has occurred

An innocent life drowned by grief

Whose happiness was taken by a thief

Corrupt by a curse that can’t be undid

What if we all turn out to be a Sour Patch Kid?

This poem descibes how our lives are impacted by our past, and how depression and mental illness affects who we are.
