Wanderer Imprisoned
I am but a lonely prisoner;
A weary wanderer.
Forever doomed to trudge
This barren expanse;
To pace between the iron walls.
Unless I should take the poisoned chalice proffered;
Drink the cursed draughts of freedom,
Break free of my cage;
Fly away from my desolate travails!
But alas,
Here and there a bird sings outside the bars;
A breeze caresses my heated brow.
“One more step,”
It murmurs.
“Your journey;
Your chains,
Shall not be forever;
For naught.”
