Painful Hope

A single point of light shines through
The warm, close darkness, wherein grew
A glowing bloom of painful hope
On a frozen, windswept slope.
For those who fear and yet still seek,
Courageous, timid, sad, or meek,
It beckons with a seductive glow,
But hides the horrors deep below.
