This is Me
I’m from freckled knees and sunburned cheeks,
swimming until my hair turned green. With elegant
white hydrangeas flooding the fresh summer air.
I am from Disney movies ( played on repeat).
Singing along to “Part of Your World”, “Reflection”, and “So This Love”.
With dreamy eyes hoping one day my prince will come.
I am from serene Sunday mornings, with delicate bows
stuck in my wavy red hair. From attending church
to having family breakfast consisting of muffins (they
tasted soft and sweet). I’m from my blue house with
white shutters (yellowing with age). From the backyard
that appeared to stretch for miles, brought joyful memories
that will last a lifetime.
I am from the first day of third grade, new school
and new faces. From missing my blue house and
old life, to stepping forward into a new one.
I am from my childhood experiences.
From the naive little girl who dreamed of fairy tales.
From evolving into a girl who knows what she wants
and is ambitious to earn it. I am from unapologetically
being me.
