Have you ever wondered what life is going to be like later on in the future? Dystopias are imagined place or state where everything is bad. Like these dystopian stories, they are described as illusions of a perfect world and what life is going to be like in the future. They explain how life has developed throughout out time and leading into the future.

In the story Harrison Bergeron is an example of a dystopia because throughout the story it gives examples of how the world they are living in during that time is described as an illusion of a perfect society. One example of people often feeling trapped and are struggling to escape during the story is “ George was toying with the vague notion that maybe dancers shouldn’t be handicapped. But he didn’t get very far with it before another noise in his ear radio scattered his thoughts”. This explains how George want to think deeper into the fact that the dancers in the story should not be handicapped because it gives them disadvantages to there dancing. But as soon as George thinks more about it, his thoughts gets shattered by the ear radio he has because of his handicaps. George can not really think about anything because the Handicap General does not allow it. Another example of Technological Control throughout the story is “ George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicapped radio in his ear”. This explains how if someone is not normal and has the same knowledge as everyone else then they are labeled as a handicapped. No matter if you are smarter or not you get one. There are different kinds of handicapped depending on the type of disability you have according to the Handicap General. This story is experiencing a rise in popularity today because it makes the audience think about if this is actually going to happen in the future.

Ten With A Flag has dystopian features in the story because it gives examples of what a perfect world is going to be like. One example of how the protagonist in the story questions the existing social and political systems is “  ‘Your child is a ten sir. ‘ That should be enough to make you forget about the flag. ‘Well it doesn’t. It certainly didn’t keep Central from issuing the flag.’ Why would they have issued a flag unless there was some concern”. This explains how this families baby was born a ten and then they were moved to the eight section. The father is concerned because Central only issues a flag is there is a concern with the baby, but there is nothing wrong with it that is why the father is concerned about the issuing of the flag. Another example of the citizens are perceived to be under constant surveillance is “ A demotion? Jonnie said. I can’t believe that. No, I said, nodding toward the speaker panel on the dashboard”. This is an example of citizens are perceived to be under constant surveillance because all of the cars are controlled by technology and all they have to do is plug in there destination. Also, each car has a speaker to wear Central can hear all if the conversations that they people are having in the car. This story shows that it is rising in popularity today because it explains that in the future everything is going to be controlled by technology and it gives of something to think about.

The story The Veldt is an example of a dystopian society that is perceived to be a “perfect” world because it tells about the technological advancements that are going to happen in the future. One example of citizens are living in a dehumanized state is “ Matter of fact, we’re thinking of turning the whole house off for about a month. Live sort of a happy family existence”. This is an example of citizens living in a dehumanized state because this family is living in a house that is all controlled by technology. Everything they do, machines do it for them. Later in the story the father realizes that the life they are living is not the normal average living life that they should be living. He wants to learn and know how to do things for themselves instead of having machines controlling everything that they do. Another example of citizens have fear of the outside world is “ That sounds terrible! Would I have to tie my own shoes instead of letting the machine do it? And brush my own teeth and comb my hair and give myself a bath?” This is an example of citizens having fear of the outside world because the children in the story do not want to do things on there own and keep having the machines doing it for them. The father realizes that they need to learn but they children do not see a point in it. This dystopian story is rising in popularity today because this story tells us how life is going to supposedly going to be like in the future.

In conclusion, the future of our world can lead to many different things. As shown and explained in the stories has many different views as to what the future can be. In the stories the life is explained to be under the control of technology. It describes how some stories live to where they do nothing for themselves and everything is controlled by machines. The real question is, what is the future going to actually be like later on?
