Dreams Fulfilled in the End
My mother’s dream were always to become a successful businesswoman and travel the world. After graduating high school, she attended Boston College and earned a bachelor of science degree, also known as business management. My mom aspired the hobby of cosmetology because she enjoys making others feel positive about themselves. She followed her heart and also became a licensed aesthetician by undergoing cosmetology school. Not only did she earn these two degrees, but she also is a licensed real estate agent. With these credentials, she had high hopes of being a thriving businesswoman like the Rockefeller of the 1900s. My mother’s dreams were fulfilled, as she embarked on her career path as a buyer of a major electronics company and taking several trips to Asia. She felt invincible and as if she could conquer the world.
This proceeded until, my mother and father decided it would be best if she stays at home to raise the family, rather than both parents working. During this period, she felt unappreciated of her hard work and effort due to my father giving her a hard time with her business events. They had differing philosophies of working that lead to arguing and my mother decided that she would be less stressed quitting the workforce. At this point, she saw her dreams shattered and unfulfilled. All the years of working at her career were wasted and unnecessary because she was now just a housewife. She felt depressed and bored with being the one to cook, clean, write checks, and do the laundry.
This pestering feeling soon faded, as she watched her children grow up and become successful. My mother came to the realization, that her working in the home, is just as valuable and important as working in the business world. If she had not made this choice, her children may have not ended up the way they became. My mom is a believer of the saying “Everything happens for a reason.” She truly and honestly feels that fate has led her to this outcome and has had a positive impact on the result. In the end, my mother’s dreams were fulfilled, in which she raised and developed a prospering family full of love.
