Tick. Tick. Tick. Every second of every hour. The clock on my wall. It irritates me. Drives me to madness. Every infernal tick, I delve deeper into insanity. While I try and rest my limbs, the clock’s keep going. Tick. Tick. Tick. Diving deeper into the rough ocean that is my thoughts. It keeps me up at night.

One day, I had enough. Before I went to sleep, I pulled out the clock’s heart. Tick… The ticking had stopped. I was finally free. Like a bird freed from it’s cage, I flew peacefully towards my bed. I could have a quiet night. But then other voices emanated from the shadows. Scurrying in the walls. The howling of the wind. A monster’s erie, yellow teeth could be seen from the closet.

I am left to the noises of the night. The unending abyss that is called night only brings me closer to my fears. I realize now that the clock wasn’t annoying me. It was protecting me. From the other noises. I have tried time after time to return my protector, but no matter what heart I try, the clock won’t beat ever again.
