Ode to my Varsity Bag
It’s time for school my friend!
You are the help,
That I most gladly to be with today.
Heavy, but spacious
for all the things
I needed most.
My shoulder pads,
Overused football cleats,
Armored shirts,
A white protective helmet,
Filled water bottle,
And my mouthguard.
That red padded strap
Thick, strong, durable, and soft
As it rides on my shoulder
Hangs with pride,
My friend, red varsity bag.
To the yellow school bus, I climb
Together you hung by my side,
Bumping in between seats,
Walking sideways,
Making sure I don’t hit anyone,
Finding open seats,
And letting you lay in the middle of the aisle.
Carrying you to my locker,
Keeping you safe,
Letting you take a nap,
After my schoolwork is done,
And until we meet each other in the sunset,
My training has just begun.
You serve me well like a bellman in a five-star hotel.
You neither complain nor ask for tips,
Through the years you have been my friend
My red varsity bag is always for keeps.
