Just Asking for a Friend
I’m just asking for a friend,
But how do you sleep at night,
Do you toss and turn?
Because I,
I mean them,
Do it all the time,
They can’t stay awake
because,
They say the things they have seen
make the leeches eat,
My,
my friend’s brain,
Just asking for a friend,
Have you ever felt alone?
Because I,
I mean their,
Friends are long gone,
And I’m tired of watching their plans fall apart,
I’m just asking for a friend,
But have you ever felt insecure ,
Like you’re made out of string
and the threads just disappear?
Because they really need to know,
They are sick and tired
of everything falling apart,
Exhausted from seeing the walls they have built,
Tumble down,
Provoked that life does not get any more,
Pleasantful,
And they are desperately awaiting,
on a reason why,
Why?
Why is their universe crashing down?
Have you ever felt this way?
I’m just asking for a friend,
She really needs these questions answered,
For I,
I mean her questions,
Haven’t been directly,
fulfilled,
I'm just asking for a friend,
So could you get back to me soon.

I choose spoken word poetry because I feel it makes an enormous impact on this poem. In spoken word poems the tone of voice goes up and down to emphasize the poem and I believe this does a great job at it. This poem is to emphasize the fact that most people are very shy when it comes to sharing their concerns or thoughts. So using the quotes, “I’m asking for a friend”, demonstrates that people want to know themselves but are scared of the reaction that may lay beneath.
