Love Me Not
Meeting each other's gaze
Only briefly,
He’s presenting at the front of the room.
Sharing a midnight kiss at the edge of the driveway,
While your neighbors trash can is getting mauled by a hungry raccoon.
Laying in the middle of the field to stare up at the stars,
Enduring January’s relentless cold,
He’s shaking but still holding you close.
Being eaten alive by mosquitoes in summer’s heat.
But it’s okay, you love him most.
Laughing together because you’ve taken a wrong turn in the city,
Google Maps was being a pain.
Realizing three stops in,
That you’re heading to Brooklyn,
You took the wrong f***ing train.
It’s 3 AM in the morning,
This was your forewarning,
You both fall asleep in history anyway.
It all seemed perfect,
But alas, you weren’t worth it.
He wasn’t planning to stay.
Sacrifices were made,
You wonder if it was all a charade,
He’s gone, he so easily let go.
You’ve learned your lesson, love sucks, I know.
You’ll heal, but it’ll be long and slow.
