From The Stage

Frigid air turns hot,

Lights brighten on the spot,

The bright brass glows in the light,

Concert F’s pass through the night,

Finally the conductor says,

“Let us begin with our first song”,

And our music plays all night long,

Boom! Says the bass drum,

Toot! Says the flutes,

Fwoom! Says the oboe,

Ding! Says the bells,

Ring! Says the triangle,

And the trumpets sing their Rooty Toot Toots!,

Are music lifts the audience into the air,

And people are dancing everywhere!,

The band’s fears float away,

Hooray!,

Our final note fills the room,

And the audience's applause is as loud as the bass drum’s Boom!

At the end of the concert we’re all carefree,

And everyone sleeps happily. . .

The author's comments:

I recently had my first ever band concert and it was so much fun! I really enjoyed being one of the percussionists, hitting each bar on the bell sets, and smacking the bass drum with all of my confidence. This piece of poetry demonstrates what it felt like to be up on the stage playing with the band.
