Leaves Fall
The leaves fall,
Taking a few more weak breaths and jumping,
From the top of the tree that raised them,
To the ground below,
Leaving everything they’ve ever known,
Laying to rest in a place they’ve only seen.
It’s easy for them,
It’s easy to end it all knowing,
Their families meet them at the bottom,
Their friends meet them at the bottom,
And together they die.
I fall,
Taking my positive thoughts,
Returning them to their negative roots,
Throwing myself,
Into a depressive spiral,
Aspiring to have as much courage as the leaves.

This piece was based on a photo I took last Fall. At the time, I was going through a depressive episode. I started thinking of life more critically. I over-analyzed every situation and every thing I saw. Whenever I look back at the photo this is based on, I remember exactly how I felt. This poem is special to me, not only because of the emotional attachment I have to it, but also the difference in style that I attempted. This poem approaches suicide in a non-traditional way. Instead of focusing on the actual thoughts and feelings of the suicidal person, I decided to make it more vaugue. I hope you enjoy my piece.
