we are like human beings
used to be before they became
too civilized to enjoy themselves
- Don Marquis, The Lesson of the Moth

The Lawyer walked to the memorial, heels clacking,

Her healed heart slowly cracking,

Chocolatey locks of hair catching falling tears,

Ripping her apart and reliving the wretched years.

Her long legs tangled with ribbons of air,

Somedays she felt no one could care.

She approached The Memorial cautiously,

Bright green eyes searching carefully,

She finds his name and reaches out,

To her father, she was devout.

The memories flashed before her eyes,

Before she formed her serious guise.

She had no life, she lost her friend,

Always alone in the end.

If father was there he would know what to do,

But the airplanes of 9/11 took him, too.

At last, she fell to the ground, overdosed,

She was going to be with him, she was there, almost.

Wanted to say goodbye before she’d go,

Finally, she would never feel quite so hollow
