Dangerous Times
According to a website called “edgarsnyder”, about 660,000 people attempt to use their phone while driving every single day. Nearly 330,000 injuries occur every year due to texting and driving. Doesn’t anyone think people would want to stop using their phones for that extra 20 minutes in the car and save a life? People today are so dependant on their phone that they’re checking it constantly. In fact, studies show that the average person checks their phone 85 times a day. Listen to what happens when anyone texts and drives and the crashes caused from it, the teen statistics, the general statistics, and the solution to it.
According to “wlwt” Aimee was six months pregnant with a baby boy named Gabriel when she was hit head on by a woman going 75 in a 35. Almost every bone in Aimee’s body was broken. She was just going to the beach to relax on her day off. One woman “just” texting and driving killed Aimee’s baby and changed her life forever. 1.6 million crashes are caused by texting and driving per year. There are 5.25 million crashes that take place per year according to “edgarsnyder,” that means 30 percent of crashes per year are caused from texting and driving. According to “Aol” Carlee was only 17 when she killed a man and his 10 year old daughter. She had three friends with her and they claim they told her to stop texting and she said ”f--- off”. She reportedly said “she didn’t care if she crashed.” Carlee has to live with this for the rest of her life, nobody wants to go through that. Here are the teen statistics of it.
11 teens die everyday as a result of texting and driving. That would mean 4,015 teens die every single year just from one “little” act. Everyone says drinking and driving is so bad, which it is, but what about texting and driving? It is four times more likely that people will get into an accident or near accident from texting and driving than it is when you drink and drive according to “edgersnyder.” Why can’t people just wait till they get home to text? Is texting someone really more important than human lives? 94 percent of our population of teens acknowledge the danger of texting and driving yet 35 percent admit to doing it anyways. If 35 percent of teens admitted to it imagine how many people do it but don’t admit it. If you think that’s bad listen to the general statistics.
“Oh my gosh I can’t believe anyone would drink and drive! It is so dangerous and could kill so many people!” She types this while driving down the road at 60 mph, just a quick text, nothing dangerous about that right? Wrong, According to “edgarsnyder” if someone is texting while driving, they are six times more likely to cause an accident than a drunk driver. Texting and driving alone causes 330,000 injuries per year. That means one out of four crashes are caused by texting and driving! 94 percent of people support a ban on texting and driving and 74 percent support a ban on handheld cellphone use while driving. Yet so many people still do it. Let’s talk about the solution and put those phones down!
There is a device anyone can instal into their vehicle called cellcontrol. According to “cellcontrol” cellcontrol stops people from texting, emailing, surfing the web, playing games, tweeting, snapchatting, going on facebook, take selfies, and many more things. It is vehicle motion activated so every time the vehicle is in motion it basically makes any phone useless. Cellcontrol also has a tracker in it so people's parents can see where they are and it has other parental controls. Cellcontrol could stop a lot of crashes, if we all got it there wouldn’t be as many accidents out there.
Now that you listened to what can happen when you text and drive and the crashes caused from it, the statistics, and the solution I hope nobody ever wants to text and drive. When people text and drive they’re putting not only their own life at risk but also somebody else’s life. 330,000 injuries occur per year from texting and driving but we can prevent it by putting cellcontrol into all cars. Think about everybody’s life including your own. Don’t put people’s lives at risk just because that one text “needs” to get sent. Think of this, that person you’re sending that text to is looking forward to making it home alive. It would hurt them to get a call saying somebody they love died while sending a text to them. Think before you do.
