Evaluation of Bengali juvenile literature
Reading old books, the thing which amazes me is that, once our authors used to uplift social morals, they cared more about our society and the upcoming generations. But most of the recent authors use the anciently built, currently broken social structure to uplift themselves, fame and fans are all the things they care about, and naturally the reflection of the author's mentality is the most prominent thing I find in their books... Their responsibility towards the society has been deducted to the less it could be. Once someone wrote a book like 'SHIULI (Symbolic flower of a famous Bengali festival called DURGA PUJA)' and now there are authors who describe teenage by 'Throwing ice cream sticks at other people (Taken from a currently popular Bengali book, and translated in English)'... The difference may be just like the difference between 'seeing' and 'viewing', you see everything around you but not view everything around you, and this lack of 'viewing' among the emerging authors is resulting in shallow depth books. Now, I'm not saying that all the new-gen authors are contributing to the social downfall, because books like 'Sotti Ratan (Story of a kid who felt lost in his daily city life)', 'Best Friend (Sweet calm stories of friendship)'Jyathamoshai series (Purely comedy stories for kids)','Sunderban dakche (Full of thrilling adventures happening in Sundarbans)'are being published too. All these books are not very renowned just as their authors, but these books give a serene vibe among the readers. Also these realistic fiction novels or short stories help the new generation think out of the box, making them capable of managing any kind of situation by themselves. Whereas some of these books help the new book readers create their own fantasy world. These books and their authors are quietly setting a benchmark for the bookworm and vintage vibe lover teens. Although the above article is based on my personal opinion and completely on young adults and children's literature. And I absolutely have no intention to hurt anyone or someone's favourite author or stories. Some of the informations are taken from sites found from Google.
