Incidents
In the past and present, there have been incidents in my life that I would not wish on my worst enemy. Living with my single mother has taught me many life skills that I will carry throughout my life. However, there are certain skills you have to learn on your own; the hard way. I have gone to a psychologist since I was seven years old and I have recently been diagnosed with depression and also anxiety.
As days pass by, it seems like life continues to get harder and harder and you don’t know what to do to make yourself feel better. You watch the people around you grow and wonder why you’re stuck in this dark abyss. Not only are you bringing yourself down but you’re also dragging the people you love most down too. In that case it would be my mother and my sister. Seeing them cry just because I can’t stop crying makes me feel like I’ve ruined them.
Part of depression and anxiety will make you feel as if you are alone. Throughout the journey you will pull away because you feel as if no one understands you and your situation. Having these feelings are reasons why I want to be a leader and work hard to become a better leader in the future. Depression is a condition that affects one in ten Americans. It is very important for me to help anyone going through a difficult time in their life because I never want someone to feel the way I have felt most of my life.
The way I feel when I can help someone sends me over the moon. Knowing that I have made a difference in a person’s academic work, love life, household, health, or any other crisis makes me feel like life can and will get better. I love that people feel so comfortable to just come and ask for help because it shows that I am trustworthy. Helping others also helps me because for the time being, I am bringing happiness to someone else.
However I need to learn how to have better patience. There are so many expectations the world puts on people and when something does not go my way or it does not happen quick enough, I tend to get frustrated and stress myself out more. This is one of the reasons why I am so interested in this program because I would love to learn how to release some pressure in order to become a better leader. Learning that opportunities will come my way when God decides it is the right time is really important to me. I am not perfect but helping others is a job that I want to continue growing in.
