Snapchat Filters
Snapchat? Basic, right? Even though it’s an app that allows users to send pictures and videos that will later self-destruct, it still has value to me. I feel like the use of Snapchat is always to brag about your Snapchat score or see how many days you can get a streak. In my opinion, the filters are the best feature. They either make your face really pretty or they embarrass you for your lifetime. Trust me, I would know! I mean, why wouldn’t you want to be a dog, or a deer, or a bunny? With that said, I believe in the power of Snapchat filters because they create laughter and memories.
I remember one time when my friends and I were Snapchatting each other and our pictures were normal, but then they gradually got worse and worse. The faces we made were beastly. Bonding with my friends involved seeing our ten double chins that the picture created. They became so funny that we could not pass up the opportunity of screenshotting. Once my friends and I took these pictures, we became closer. We were comfortable sending pictures to each other without “judgement.” I know once we take a funny picture we can laugh for like two hours, it’s insane. Some of the pictures are us looking like dogs with the big nose and ears with a welcoming and wet tongue as you open your mouth. Or, the filters make us look like we aren’t even from Earth. Having these memories and photos help me understand that I can be myself and don't have to care what others think. I've noticed myself opening up a lot more. If you knew me before, you would know that I was the shy, quiet girl that didn't say a word. But now, I've found my voice and I can use it.
Snapchat filters create long lasting memories. I always look back on the pictures I have taken and die of laughter, even though it was taken forever ago. I still remember what went through our heads to take that picture. I laugh like it happened yesterday. My camera roll is literally filled up with amazing and hilarious pictures. I know I can also count on all those picture to cheer me up when I’m down. Some examples can be when I’m really tired, and I need a boost. Or, if I had a rough time with parents or other friends. And I know that I also have to open my snaps when I’m alone, because who knows what’s on the other side! The funny pictures let us know that we are safe in the hands of our friends. It is nice to know that I can make someone’s day by just a picture
Using Snapchat filters every single day is a must, whether it's sitting in the back of the bus, heading to a volleyball game or even just doing it for fun. At our volleyball games I would always take pictures with the filters of my teammates, and it is so funny because they are not paying attention.
I encourage that everyone creates laughter for themselves and others. Laughter gives me happiness. It makes me forget about the pain (but not the good pain where you are laughing so much with your friends, your stomach starts hurting). They bad pain of losing something, or getting into an argument. But the good laughter when your laugh turns silent after a while or when you start having tears come out of your eyes. “Laughter is the fireworks of the soul,” your body is so happy, that it just explodes with “fireworks.” Laughing is like an instant ab workout!
Without Snapchat filters, laughter and memories would not exist. I know that snapchat filters allow me to play the laughter, pause the memories, stop the pain, and rewind the happiness.
