When I was eight I decided to start a new sport. Soccer. In the beginning, I could barely shot at the goal and I didn’t know what dribbling was. All the other girls and boys on the team had experience and were advance because of their previous years playing soccer. This intimidated me because I didn’t want to be known as the girl that sucks. The league I was playing wasn’t that serious so I wasn’t too worried about being inexperienced but it still made me nervous. Four practices past and I didn’t get any better. The only thing I did was learn what dribbling meant. A couple more practices went by and I managed to dribble and actually run up and down the field without being out of breath. The only thing I managed to still struggle at was shooting. No matter how hard i tried I still sucked at shooting. Our first game came and I played forward. Forward is where you can run the whole field and shoot. I was okay I received the ball a couple times but tried to pass and failed and tried to shoot and failed. My coach took me out and barely played me. The next couple games I did the same things but played less. The next year I came back and got a new team. I really felt prepared because I practiced with my babysitter all the time. At her house,my house, the lake, parties, basically any place we had a soccer ball and space to kick it around. This year i played a couple minutes more and sucked just a little less. I continued to work very hard and try my best. I basically sat on the bench the whole time cheering for my teammates that actually played and were good at it. Next year I played and I actually didn’t suck for once. Still no goal but i got the ball more and learned how to actually pass however this year there was a ball hog on my team. She never passed to anyone even if that meant letting the other team get the ball and us losing the game. She loved the fame of having the ball and scoring all the goals that she didn’t get the meaning of teamwork. After that year I and my family made a big decision and moved to Florida. I did cheer the first trimester because I've done it ever since I was six. The next trimester I tried out for the soccer team. I was really nervous because i didn't want to suck again and ruin my reputation with all my new friends. It turns out i made the core team which is the team that has all the players that play all game on it. The first game went very good and i go the ball a lot and had very good passes but no goal. The third game I got the ball passed to me and this girl tripped me so I shoved her and got a yellow card. The next game I got the ball passed to me and ran up the side of the field and took the perfect shot and scored a goal. I was so happy and all my teammates ran up to me and hugged me. That game I scored the winning goal. That was the best feeling ever. Every game after that i was playing really good and had a lot of good moments. A few games later I scored an even better goal than the first one. I was actually a really good soccer player and I've played more on this team than I have in my life. I am actually one of the best players on the team. I am so glad I chose to try a new sport and never gave up until i succeeded. I will continue to play soccer until I graduate high school.
