I was in my 9th grade year and my friend told me that she was going to a school named Delaware Met her 10th grade year and I thought it was an amazing idea, she told me that they had internships and they had computers so I begged my mom to go there and she said yes, but we had to fill out an application online, so we did. My first day was August 24th, 2015, I was scared on my first day at this new school but I had friends there so it wasn’t too bad. As we got into the school year I was really enjoying my new school.

As the weeks went on I started to notice that we weren’t really getting any school work and we didn’t have any schedules but I didn’t say anything so around November we got our schedules but nobody had the right classes on their schedules but within two weeks they got them right. One week we had a whole week off because they didn’t have the school together and our principal was pregnant at the time so she was off for maternity leave so we didn’t have a principal. After she had her baby, they had got a new principal, but my old principal didn’t know that so they had to tell her and she was crushed.

After our new principal came they tried to get the school together by hiring new administrators but the school got WORSE, students started fighting more and bringing knives and other weapons to school, so every day before school we had to be searched. I never brought my book bag to school so they didn’t really search me, but it was still scary to know that students were bringing weapons to school and being in danger.

In December, the principal announced that the school would be closing on January 22nd, 2016; the school only stayed open for five months. I was upset that the school was closing down because the school was so easy and we never had any work. I didn’t stay until the end, I came back to my old school January 19th, 2016 and it was hard for me to adjust to coming back, because for five months I was used to not doing any work, skipping class, not having uniform, and doing what I wanted. When I came back I had an advantage because I was only there for half a year but Delaware Met messed my grades up so because I never had work I was failing my English class when I was at Delaware Met so for 2 marking periods I had F’s at Del Met so when I came back, Del Met started to send me work. I did the work and got an A for the second marking period so they sent me a new report card and I gave it to my current school and the Board of Education wouldn’t accept my A because I was already at my current school when I got it.

I fought for a month and a half to try to get the Board of Education to approve my A but they didn’t, so then I had to work extra hard to pass my English class. At my current school, and the 3rd marking period was almost over and my grades weren’t looking so good so I did everything I could to try and pass the 3rd marking period unfortunately I didn’t so now I’m considered a 10th grader. I have a class called credit recovery and it is helping me to get the credits I need to be a full 11th grader.

Now this year as an 11th grader I am still working on my credit recovery. I am passing that class and it has truly helped me with my English work. I’m not happy that I am still considered a 10th grader but I’ve learned my lesson and I don’t need to change schools if I’m at a great school, the moral of my experience is don’t change school because the one you’re at is a great school.
