I wake up and the first thing i do is grab my ipod and start my favorite playlist. I walk around the house blasting music while gathering everything i need to get ready for the day. Singing and dancing to Fall Out Boy as I slowly curl each and every strand of hair. This sets my mood for the rest of the day; Nothing has the same effect on me as music does.
????
I walk down the halls with multiple thoughts running through my mind. I need to do this, I didn't do this, where is my homework, why is anything I do never good enough?
Everyday I go through a similar routine. Wake up, get ready, go to school, come home, do homework, go to sleep, with a little bit of randomness in between. As I walk into my first period the stress begins. People to talk to and things to get done. How can I be expected to live a happy life with the weight of the world on my shoulders.
????
Throughout all time people have made and listened to music. It is playing every single day, no matter where you are. If you walk into a store, school, restaurant and even a dentist's office you take the chance of hearing some random tune playing in the background. You may listen to it while working on homework, walking down the street, or even while doing your daily exercise routine. It is one of the few activities you take part in that involves using the whole brain. Each beat, each strum of the guitar, and each word affects different parts of your brain. It also affects your emotions and nervous system.
????
Everything is working against me. Pushing me to the edge, until I finally break, until I can’t deal with it anymore. The homework keeps piling up. I have no time for anything else anymore, my life is consumed with school, dragging on to the final hours of the night. All I ever seem to do is worry about never getting it done, or think about the possibility of getting something wrong, messing up, failing my peers or even failing myself.
????
Music, the one thing that controls every single aspect of my life. I can listen to one song and be sad and feel devastated, but on the flip side i can listen to some other song and instantly be consumed by a strong feeling of joy. The lyrics speak to me in a way that people and objects can’t seem to. It is the only way i can access my happy place. If i am going through a really rough time i just need to hop on my bed and blast a song.
????
Music is one of the few activities that involves using the whole brain. It can do multiple things for your brain. “Studies show that calming music can promote pro-social behavior and decrease impulsive behavior.” Along with this it can also help relieve stress and calm you down.
????
I get home and there is a list of things i need to get done.
Unload and Reload the dishwasher
A chore that doesn’t take that long, but can’t be finished without the help of my brother and sister. If it’s not done quickly it may never get done.
Work on homework
Something that every teacher gives, and every student hates. It is an endless pile of seemingly useless work. It causes worry, and distress in every student’s life. Taking up endless hours of my day as i do do this useless work. It causes me stress that is nearly unbearable. The stress can be so extreme that it sometimes bringing tears to my eyes, as i realize that i might not be capable of getting everything done. That i might not be capable of keeping my grades up to the high expectations i place upon myself.
Even more homework
Because teachers can’t resist giving almost 2 hours each of unbearable lists of homework.
????
I make it home from school and i begin with putting my ipod on shuffle. It is the only way i can release myself from the anxiety that the world puts on my shoulders. I start on my chores. Time seems to fly by as i get everything done quickly.
I get out my homework, with music in the background. I begin. It seems to be easier with the music. It truly helps. The upbeat tune of the music in my mind helps me think; It helps me remember how to do the steps on my math assignment, helps me concentrate on the task at hand.
Homework is never fun but the music makes it easier. It releases the stress i feel when i realize that i can’t finish my physics worksheet for the day. Over the years i have always known what to do and how to do it; I have always been able to keep my grades up. 11th grade physics challenged that. My grades had almost dropped below my expectation of an A-. If it wasn’t for the music, giving me hope and the urge to press on, I would have just given up. I would have had unbearable anxiety, and my eyes would have been filled with tears.
????
Studies show that relaxing music helps the body to return to a non-stressed state more quickly.” This may be why we listen to music when we are working on a huge project, or when we want to get our mind off of something. Music releases us from the pain and stress of the world. It gets us out of our own minds. It helps us focus on things that we normally can't focus on.
????

Singing, another part of music, releases me of all worry. It helps me to forget about what is going on around me for a short period of time. Anything that makes me sad, angry, or stressed can be released by singing. Music can help with somethings, but not everything. My voice is always there for me, i am always ready to bust out in song. It may be weird to some people but it is the only thing that i have that helps.
????
An analysis of 5 studies on music for depression concluded that music therapy is not only acceptable for depressed patients, but it actually helps improve their moods. Music has proven useful in helping patients with serious medical illnesses such as cancer, burns, and multiple sclerosis who are also depressed. Music helps us, it makes us happy. It is that simple.
????
Everyday i walk through the school halls. Each wednesday i go to young womens. Every sunday i am at church. I am almost always happy.
I am always asked why i am so happy. How can i be smiling so often. My answer to them is that i simply dont know, but that isnt fully true. Music helps me to feel joy in almost every aspect of my life. I can walk around with a smile on my face, and a jump in my step all becuase of music. Nothing is so relaxing and amazing as music. A small simple combination of sounds can have such an affect on my life, and emotions.
Its shocking how such a simple, everyday thing can bring such an amazing feeling to my life. Every sound is happier, every color is brighter, and anything that people say is just so much more important. I can focus on the people and things around me more. I can feel grateful for everything around me because music is there helping me through the day. Each hour, minute, even every second is affected by music. It is all around us all the time.
????
In short, music is my life. It controls everything that i do, and all of my emotions. It helps me through tough times. It is the only thing that relieves my stress. Everyone of my days are better because of music. Nothing else brings me such joy as music.
