Science Fair
“Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye”. This quote by Helen Keller explains how I did so well in the Science Fair. I did not avoid it, I faced it straight in the eye. Just like Helen Keller, I have had many obstacles that I have overcame. One of the biggest obstacles I have faced was Science Fair.
To begin, the Science Fair is one of the hardest things I have ever accomplished. In my eighth grade year at St. Joe, we had to do Science Fair. Science Fair is a project where you pick a topic and have to test it to see if your opinion is right. I had to pick a topic that I could test and that I would enjoy working on throughout the year. Since I am interested in being a Pharmacist, I chose to see if people could tell the difference between similar looking medicines and candies.
After that, I had to start working on it. I named my project Medicine Mix-Up and after that, I had to test my thesis. In order to do this, I made a test consisting of ten similar looking medicines and candies. After that, I tested six Kindergarteners, six fourth graders, six eighth graders, and six adults. Once I received all the test results, I had to write many papers on the results.
Following this, I had to present my project and speech to judges. Memorizing the speech and presenting the project was very difficult for me. I was really nervous, but all I had to do was believe in myself. Later, I found out I made it to Regionals for paper and project, and at Regionals I had the second best paper. After Regionals, I went to State, but I won nothing.
Once again, just like Helen Keller, I have had to overcome my fears, like Science Fair. Science Fair has affected my life because it has helped me understand more about medicine. It has also given me more money because of the awards I won. This obstacle has taught me that even if something seems impossible, all you have to do is believe in yourself. Then, the obstacle becomes possible.
