How Did a Steel Fabrication Factory Ruin my Life
How did a steel fabrication factory ruin my life? It was 2010 and I was eleven years old. Everything was perfect. I lived out in the country where I could do anything I want to do. My Dad, Mom, and my two brothers were happy too. In the country we could shoot guns, go squirrel hunting whenever. We could garden and play games in our two acre yard. It was a very happy time. Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I overcame the obstacle of moving from the country into town.
Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate because she was blind and deaf. Helen became blind and deaf after she caught an illness when she was about two years old. Helen was an obstreperous brat. Since Helen was blind and deaf she could not understand what was going on around her. Helen could not be told what to do and what not to do by her parents. Since Helen could not communicate with her parents, Keller and Kate, they could not do anything with her but give her what she wanted, or she would have a temper tantrum and destroy the house, and hurt people. Helen’s parents were tired of Helen destroying the house and running the house, so Captain Keller and Kate finally called in somebody to help. Annie Sullivan came from Massachusetts all the to the Keller’s farm in Alabama to help Helen. Annie taught Helen how to talk through sign language and after Helen understood that things have word and words mean things she finally understood how to communicate. What Helen had to do to accomplish this though was to learn to trust Annie. Let Annie touch Helen, ,teach Helen to behave like a human, and teach her obedience. Most of all learn how to communicate to express her feelings and control her feelings. As Helen Keller said, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved”.
Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I overcame the obstacle of moving from the country into town. I lived out in the country on Mt. Pleasant lane. There was a two acre yard and a field right in the front of our house. When the farmer sold the field to the Mennonites we heard that they were going to build a steel fabrication factory we knew that we had to move. Now you are probably asking why? I have two little brothers, Caleb and Andrew, and Andrew has down syndrome. With a factory comes big machinery. With big machinery things become dangerous for people like Andrew because they don't know how to sense danger as well as other people. So my mom became very nervous just like all other mothers. So we told the church we had to move. We live in a parsonage. Which means the house is owned by the church that my dad is the preacher at. Well good for us some member in our congregation was moving to Springfield, Illinois so we can move to that house. The bad thing was that it is in town. I hate town! There is no privacy, no shooting guns, no hunting, no gardening, and too many people. The thing was though that I had no control over the matter. My dad did not have any control over it, nor did the elders at my church. It was the farmer's fault. I was mad at him for the longest time. So we moved to town and I loathed it. I couldn't do anything like the things I did in the country. I was stranded by people and more people. I hate civilization! Thankfully, we had Lloyd, a wealthy landowner, in our congregation and he fixed all of our problems. He let us hunt on his ground. He'll let us Garden Inn shoot guns on his ground. It was awesome. Even better we had Dorothy Fern in our congregation. Dorothy is a millionaire. She gave our congregation money to build a new house in the country. She is also my best friend from birth. When she built the house I was so happy. Now I am living away from town and living in the country and can do whatever I want.
My obstacle that I overcame is much like Helen Keller's because moving into town was like losing my sight, hearing, and not being able to communicate. Moving into town was like losing sight because I lost all vision or hope. I was angry and mad for the longest time. It was like being deaf because I lost all the sounds of the country. I hated the constant noise of traffic and people. I loved the bird and animal sounds in the country. I couldn't communicate like Helen Keller because losing the country was like losing the language I have been speaking for years.
I learned a lot from my obstacle of moving from the country into town much like Helen Keller overcame the office obstacle of not being able to communicate. What I learned from Helen's obstacle is that you should never give up no matter how big the problem. What I learned from my experiences that things happen in your life that you're not going to like. God puts them in your life to test you. "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work knowing that you may be perfect and complete lacking nothing." James 1:2-4.
