Trip to Africa
It was fun and cool
Chapter 1: Trip to Africa Me and my family went to Africa on summer vacation. We had the best time of our lives! It was a very long flight from home, but it was worth it. As soon as we landed, I couldn’t believe what I saw. Africa seemed very out of the ordinary, I never expected it to be so beautiful. We headed directly to our hotel. To my surprise, it wasn’t a regular hotel. Instead of rooms, we had tents. How cool! We spent the night there and at 6:00 am we woke up to the most beautiful sunrise, and to our first safari. This is where all the fun began.
We met our safari guide. He was a very nice man. He showed us to our jeep and told us everything we needed to know about safety and the animals we were about to see. Before we knew it we were on our way . Five minutes hadn’t passed when I spotted the first animal . It was a giraffe! I stared at it’s tongue and it was the most curious thing I had ever seen. It was blue and really long! I knew what the animal was, but I didn’t know why it’s tounge was that color so I asked my mom: “Why do giraffes have a blue tounge?” She said: “Giraffes have blue tounges because this protects them from getting sunburn when they get leaves from trees” . Her response was very weird but it also made a lot sense because you cannot get sunburned when your skin is dark .
As we continued our safari across the Serengeti, we made a sudden stop. “Look!” our guide told us. “Can you see that?” I quickly took out my binoculars and saw the hugest lion I had ever seen. We silently drove our jeep close to the lion. It was only 8 feet away from us! My heart was beating really fast, I thought it would burst out of my chest! The lion stared at us for a long time and then turned back . When he looked at us I thought he was going to attack us . I felt really scared. I looked at my mom and she was curled up in a ball and was breathing really, really heavily . I turned and took a look at my cousins and they were also very scared. The only one who wasn’t scared was my cousin Pablo, he was smiling and taking photos of the lion on his ipad. as if the lion were a kitten . After a while, it was time to go and so we started moving again. I got to see many different types of animlas like crocodiles, exotic birds, hippos and elephants .
Finally, we arrived back to our tent.s. It was time for dinner. The food was delicious eventhough it was the strangest thing I had ever tasted. We had crocodile and ostrich for dinner! At first I didn’t want to taste the crocodile meat because it had a funny color: it was yellow, but to my surprise, it tasted like chicken. The ostrich was also delicious.
Now it was time for a scary story . My whole family gathered in a circle . We were ready for a fantastic scary story . My uncle started telling us about a man who was attacked by a lion and who had been in Africa at the very same spot we were in. My uncle said that the man had fallen in the camp fire he and his group had made, and that a lion came and took him back with him to his home . To scare us even more, my uncle said that the man couldn’t move because if he did then the lion would jump and attack him from behind. When we thought the story had ended, my dad came running out of nowhere towards our fire screaming “Get out of my camp!” pretending he was the man in the story my uncle had made up. My little cousins got so scared that they started crying and screaming, and everyone else started laughing . When my dad burst out, I was also very scared because I thought that it was a lion or a hunting animal that wanted to kill us . After a while, we all calmed down and forgot about what had happened . We realized we all had to go to sleep because we were going to wake up at 5:00 in the morning the next day in order to enjoy a hot air balloon ride that would let us see all the animals from up high.. By far, this is the best trip I have ever made!
