Hunting Wolf Style
Lifts my head slightly and carefully sniffs the air, taking in all types of smells but only looking for one particular scent. Closed my eyes and concentrated on all the smells I was getting from the air. Opened my eyes and looked back at my fellow pack members.
“Found Him!” I said with excitement at my accomplishment. There were 3 members with me, 4 including myself. A very very very beautif- I mean nice female wolf named Lunar with white long fur and blue eyes. Three males including myself, Lupus is the one with grey fur and blue eyes and the other wolf, Shadow, had the same black fur and yellow eyes like mine.
“Are you sure that this is him? Because last time you said you found him you led us to nothing but a huge pond.” said the black wolf Shadow.
“Ha! Ha! Yea, with a nose like that I doubt you will find your own way home!” yelled Lupus.
“Leave Vixen alone! At least he was the one who smelled something. And besides there were strong winds at the time so it made it harder to track.” said Lunar standing next to me growling at the other 2.
“Why don’t you two go mate somewhere else.” Lupus growled back angrily.
“W-were not like that!” In embarrassment she took a step back.
“Oh? That isn’t what it seems like to me.” Lupus barked back while taking a step forward
“Both of you cut it out! We can’t afford to be arguing right now. We might lose our food; we can’t go back empty pawed again.” barked Shadow getting us back on track. He sighed then turned towards me. “Since you found something go ahead and show us the way.”
“O-ok!” I said nervously but excited and led the way sniffing the air from time to time so I know I’m going in the right direction. As soon as the scent was extremely strong we hid behind a tree. I looked over the side of the tree and looked around. I spotted our dinner, A big tasty looking deer was too busy eating grass barely paying any attention to its surroundings.
“There it is.” I whispered, turning back to the rest.
“Good Job.” Shadow whispered back
“Please, He just got lucky.” said Lupus.
Shadow then explained our strategy to everyone, and we all began the hunt, the most difficult part of hunting. Lunar moved to the right around the deer while stalking so it doesn’t know she’s there. Shadow and Lupus did the same but moved around to the left so we can form an ambush on the deer I was perfectly fine right where I was. We all got into position and waited of the signal from Shadow. He moved the bush around so it can make a brushing sound. The deer hear it and quickly looked straight at the bush, now cautious. That was the cue; at once we all jumped out and ran at the deer from all sides. It was trapped but still tried to make a run for it. At almost the same time we all bit his legs hard enough to bite through the bone. The deer collapsed but refused to give up and tried to run but couldn’t, so it was too busy sliding across the floor trying to escape. That’s when in one swift movement the black wolf bit the dear’s neck hard making the dear die instantly. There was blood all around our muzzles.
“Good job everyone! We did it.” said Shadow as we cleaned our muzzles.
“Vixen you have some blood on your side, here let me get it for you.” said Lunar, looking at me. She then licked the blood off my side clean. Grey wolf rolled his eyes while watching us.
“T-thanks…” I said nervously.
“Okay now that we got our food lets hurry back to the rest I’m hungry. Help me with him will you.” Shadow said to Lupus.
We all made our way back home taking turns to drag the deer back. And that was the end of our first successful hunt, for now.
