It was still super dark, I knew it couldn’t be past three in the morning. My eyes still groggy, I waited to get up from by bed.

“Ouch! Really,” I whispered to myself as I stumbled all over my bedroom, stepping on the toys my brother Michael left in there. I could hear somebody crying.

“Oh my God. What’s happening?” someone yelled. Right away I knew it was my stepmom, Stephanie.

“Shhh. It’ll be alright,” I heard someone say quietly. When I finally got to my door, my feet hurting from all the toys, I heard it again.

“Don’t get up. It’ll be alright,” I heard a woman say in a hushed voice. I got worried. I swung my door open. Walking down the hallway, I noticed the bathroom light was on. As I passed it, I looked over and saw my stepmom sitting on the toilet with my grandma Jackie kneeled on the floor calmly talking to her. I was so worried about getting to the living room, I didn’t think about what was going on. When I got to the living room, my dad was on his phone. He was putting something in the freezer, I couldn’t see what it was.

“What’s going on?” I asked my dad freaked out. He didn’t answer me.

“What is your emergency?” someone said on the phone. I knew it was one of the ladies that talk to you from the hospital.

“My fiance is having contractions. She’s only five months along,” my dad said worried but calm.

“What is she doing now?”

“She’s in the bathroom, sitting on the toilet,” my dad told her while walking to the bathroom.

“She wants to get up Rob?” my grandma Jackie said not knowing what to do to my dad.

“She wants to get up…,” My dad couldn’t finish his sentence because Stephanie tried anyways. The sound of water balloons hitting the cement hushed my dad, my grandma, and myself. The only thing was, it wasn’t water balloons. It was my stepmom’s water breaking.

“Was that her water?!” my dad said practically yelling but confused.

“I think so, yeah” my grandma said worried.

“My fiance’s water broke,” my dad told the lady on the phone.

“Tell her to move to the couch or a chair. Then cover her with a blanket,” the lady said so calmly. She was too calm.

“She said to move her to the couch,” my dad told my grandma.

“Is she having contractions?” the lady asked.

“Yeah, she is.” my dad said irritated. He just wanted to get her to a hospital.

I didn’t know what was going on or what was going to happen. I was just worried.

“Tell her to sit down and try to be calm as possible,” again the lady said calmly. My grandma was helping Steph to the couch. Of course she wanted her robe on before she sat down. She’s always freezing cold.

“Help will be there any minute,” the dispatcher said.

“Alright,” my dad said again shaking as he hung up the phone.

When Steph sat down, my dad put a blanket on her. That was when I started to cry. Seeing my stepmom cry and my dad so worried, I just lost it. My grandma hugged me and said it would be alright. Yeah, sure it will. I knew it wouldn’t but it helped. The paramedics barged through the door. They would’ve broke the door if my grandma didn’t unlock it. The paramedic gently took the blanket off. Steph was in pain and was crying.

“I’m not usually like this,” Steph said said, laughing a little.

“You’re fine,” the lady said. “We’re used to it. It’s our job,” the paramedic said.

“I don’t want her seeing me like this,” Steph said, looking at me. I went into my bedroom and sat there crying my heart out. I was so scared and I just knew something was wrong. I knew it wouldn’t turn out good at all.

I noticed I was at my grandma jackies house. I didn’t remember going to my grandmas.I obviously fell asleep. My brother sleeping on the loveseat and I was on the big couch. The phone rang and I heard my grandma get up. I closed my eyes pretending to sleep. I hope everything will be o.k.

“Hello,” she said, “Yeah, they’re asleep. What’s going on?” she asked, wanting to know.

“Is it a boy or girl?” my grandma asked eagerly yet sadly.”

“A girl. Grace LeeAnne, beautiful,” my grandma said. “I’m sorry she didn’t make it,” She said mournfully. She hung up the phone. She went back to her room and closed the door. I started to cry, again.

After crying and missing a few days of school, I finally started to get back to myself. I’m not a person who cries much so it felt weird. There was a part of me that wanted to cry all day and night but I knew that wouldn't do any good. I had to move on and be happy but I could still remember my sister and love her. That’s exactly what I did.
