“And my hand's on the sixteen-shot, semi-automatic crooked cop killin Glock.” Tupac. So I’m supposed to kill cops. I am supposed to murder the people who protect me everyday. According to Tupac, yes. We as people need to take time and look at what youth idealize and repeat and take influence from. Everyday, fame is abused and innocent kids are affected. Innocent kids play the price.

Children are going to desire to be, “In the club high off Purp,” just like Miley Cyrus. Kids, innocent kids, want to do drugs. Everyone of their icons is saying, yeah drugs are great, is that true?

No.
No its not.
Its never true

People blame video games and violent movies for tragic shootings, but what if thats only half of it. What if its equally music. What if? It’s possible? Anything is possible? Now don't get me wrong people should say what they think but they should be aware of their audience. People who posses ridiculous power need to learn from one of my heros... Spiderman. He said “With great power comes great power comes great responsibility.” And indeed, it does.

When was but a wee lad, (a couple months ago,) I saw a tether ball court. Wouldn’t it be fun if just like Miley Cyrus I swung on it. Figure a wrecking ball is a ball on a chain and a tether ball is a ball on a string. I couldn’t sit, I would have to stand, but what's the worst thing that could happen. People tell me I gave a thick head and that day my thick head really helped. Yeah I slipped and slammed against a wooden plank. Yeah it hurt. My following Miley’s lead could have cracked my head open. You may be thinking what kind of idiot who would do that. I’m not gonna deny it was stupid, but everyone does stupid stuff. How many people do you think did cronit because Snoop Doug and Dr. Dre said so? How many do you think have STIs because they were pressured into having sex? How many people do stupid things because of music?

The song Rap god by Eminem contains the lyrics, “Little gay looking boy So gay I can barely say it with a straight face looking boy.” In a survey of 8th grade boys all of them said they’ve been called gay in a derogatory manner. Using the word gay as a derogatory term is not okay. Using a persons sexual orientation in an offensive way is never right.

LETS GO DISCRIMINATE. No
YEAH GREAT. Nope.
LETS DO IT. Never.

393,168,078 people watched Miley Cyrus’s video Wrecking Ball in the past 3 months. Thats 131,056,026 people a month. Thats 32,764,006.5 a week. Thats 4,680,672.36 a day. That’s 393,168,078 many views of a grown women swinging nude on a wrecking ball. Worse is kids now see a wrecking ball and are like yeah lets swing on it. Or a tetherball... My head still hurts.

Don’t get me wrong I’m all for music and freedom of speech. I want to be a musician when I grow up. However, I don’t think its okay to say or do some things. Music is great, its my favorite thing in the world but its not okay to make kids feel like they should do a lot drugs, and have a lot of sex. Freedom of speech is very important but I think our society is way to desensitised to drugs. And sex. And violence. I believe in smart speech, speaking for what you believe in, for whats right, for whats good.

Not all music is bad. Not all music makes you do stupid stuff. Not all music is destructive. Some is good. Some is great. Some is exceptional. Music is made to move people to make them feel something. Look at a song like Same Love, by Macklemore it was used to improve gay rights. That is what music should be. Thats what music should be used for. It should tell a story, or help a situation, or simply make people happy.

A study taken in 2012 showed that 60% of americans had a Ipod or or mp3 device. This study shows that, most of the people in america have their own devices to play music with. This raises the question, what are they listening to? What are they doing because of what they are listening to. We won’t know until someone does something so bad they make the news.

Music is a huge part of our society.
This I know.
I believe in music.
